Using "Rally Coach" to Tackle Multiplication

Fourth graders in Ms. Jennifer Oshinski's class at South Elementary School collaborated to solve multiplication problems.

The class used a Kagan learning strategy called "Rally Coach," which allows students to work in pairs, taking turns to solve problems.

On this day they were working on multiplication and Ms. Oshinski allowed the students to pick one of the three available games.

In Game 2 the students had to pick four numbered cards. They would place three on the top and multiply that by the one number on the bottom.

In Game 3, the students had to pick five numbered cards, place four on top, and multiply that sum by the one card on the bottom.

In Game 4, the students selected four numbered cards, placed two on the top and two on the bottom and multiplied them together.

For each game, every student completed three rounds or sets of problems.
