Fun with Rulers and Sounds
South
Students in Ms. Atkinson's first grade classroom had fun making different sounds with rulers this week.
Ms. Atkinson said the students investigated vibrations as a source of sound effects for movies.
The students each took a ruler and held it off the side of the desk to make a sound with it.
They used an assortment of wooden, metal and plastic rulers.
One of the activities they had to do was create a "boing" sound every time a cartoon bouncy ball hit the ground.
After the ruler exercise, Ms. Atkinson went over different vocabulary words, including the meaning of a half measurement and also the order of numbers on a number line.
