South's fifth graders got hands-on with music today, trying out everything from violins to tubas to find their ideal instrument.

It started with a presentation by the middle and elementary school music teachers, who showed the students four different groups of instruments.

The students received a sheet listing each of the groups and instruments. After listening to each instrument, they were asked to circe an emotion icon to show how they felt about it.

For each group, they were asked to label their first and second choices.

While visiting each of the instrument groups, they were able to play both their first and second choices.

The available instruments were organized into four distinct groups: Group 1 (mallet percussion, violins, oboes), Group 2 (trumpets, violas, tubas), Group 3 (trombones, cellos, clarinets, bassoons), Group 4 (flutes, French horns, string basses).

As students visited each instrument station, they received a quick demonstration and had fun trying the instruments themselves.

No experience is required to join the South music family-just curiosity and enthusiasm!
