South Elementary School fourth graders in Mr. Michael Greenstone's music class had the unique opportunity to participate in a fun and interactive drum circle lesson.

After watching a video of African musicians playing drums in a circle, it was time for the students to try their hand at it.

The chairs in the classroom were arranged in a circle so everyone could see each other.

Mr. Greenstone first played a beat on his drum and then asked "what is your name?"

As he went around the circle, the students answered one by one, playing the drum and matching the beat with the syllables of their name.

After going around the drum circle once, Mr. Greenstone asked the students to hold up either one or two fingers.

The students then paired up, practicing playing the beats with their partners.

Each pair of students played for the class with the goal of keeping the drum beat going as it moved along to each pair of students.

The students enjoyed learning how to play and interact with one another in a drum circle.
